LTA staff -The North Team:
National Pathway Coach – Richard Plews
Responsible for National Age Group Players in the Region – 10-14years old
Regional Pathway Coach – Chris Peet
Responsible for Regional players across the North
Lead County Pathway Co-ordinator – Andrew Wilkinson Responsible for support to Counties (Cheshire, Lancashire, Cumbria) and to support the Coaches/Players in the Local Player Development Centres (Wigan, Widnes, Manchester)
County Pathway Co-ordinator –John Loughton
Responsible for support to Counties (Yorkshire, Durham & Cleveland, Northumberland) and to support the Coaches/Players in the Local Player Development Centres (Ilkley, Thongsbridge, Graves/Sheffield, Nuffield/Hull, Northumberland Academy)
Regional Player Development Centre:
· The Region currently has two Regional Player Development Centres based at Cultiv8 Leeds and Bolton Arena. The aim of these centres is to provide quality coaching to players of Regional Training Standard (and above) from the ages of 10-14.
Local Player Development Centre:
· The Region has nine of these centres, the aim of these centres is to provide quality coaching to players between the ages of 7-10 so as to maximise the number of players who will be invited onto the Regional Training Programme and onto the County Training Programme.
Regional Training Programme:
Players can be invited onto the Regional Training Programme (more information on which can be found on the LTA website) and they will then be invited to attend training at either;
> North East – Cultiv8 Tennis, John Charles Centre for Sport Leeds
Head Coach, Richard Crabtree
> North West – Bolton Arena
There are currently around 30 Players on the Regional programme with 16 Players from Yorkshire
There is also be a series of Inter Regional Matches in the Under 14 and 12 & U11 age groups against other Regions:
All matches will incorporate singles and doubles.
The team above and staff within the RPDC’s have a number of objectives and work together in their different areas along the Player Pathway. One of the ultimate objectives is to ensure a supply line of players who will meet the criteria for selection to a National Academy.
