Sam has a wealth of experience in player and coach development. His previous roles include LTA LPDC Head Coach at Graves Tennis Centre, Sheffield, where he was also the Head Coach and Tennis Manager from 2015 to 2021. He has been the 10&U Head Ccach for Yorkshire Tennis since 2021. In this role he has overseen and delivered on the county training programme helping Yorkshire to finish in first place in the county cup race in 2022. In 2023 Sam set up his academy, NexGen, which continues to go from strength to strength. Next Gen has players of all ages including and some representing GB and having significant success at domestic, Tennis Europe and ITF levels. Sam is an individual coach to several players and leads a group of coaches and sports science staff at the academy.
During Sam’s current and previous roles he has mentored coaches through the level 1 to the level 4 SPC courses as well as mentoring the winner of the national young person of the Year 2021. Sam has a huge drive for his own professional development. He is currently on the Level 5 international junior course and has been completing the 10&U Performance Coach specialism course. Sam has had many successes with both individual players and county teams. He has also captained England in the Four Nations competition and lead two age groups at Graves to National Junior Club League titles.
Sam’s coaching has been recognised with a number of prestigious awards including Yorkshire and Regional Coach of the Year. He was also runner up in the LTA Coach of the Year competition in 2018 and has just been confirmed as the Regional winner in 2024.
