Wilf World no 1.
After a recent tournament in Majorca Wilf Jessop of Hallam Grange and Hallamshire clubs (Sheffield) achieved World No 1 ranking in Men’s 75 + doubles.
Having romped through two rounds he and his Scottish partner beat a good German pair in straight sets in the semi-final, no ‘penalty shoot-out’ final set tie break required!
In the final the Spanish World No 1 75+ retired his couple after taking a tight 6-4 first set, allegedly to catch a plane; who knows what might have happened after that.
Such achievement takes investment in much time and resources in entering competitions here and abroad – there’s no easy route to such success.
