The new season for players competing in the NIC Yorkshire Visually Impaired Tennis League got underway at Nuffield Tennis Academy, Hull, in April and what a great start it was.
League organiser David Wallace said: “We had a fantastic turnout, with support from sponsors, the LTA umpires and a brilliant group of volunteers who helped everything run smoothly.
“It was especially notable to have our sponsors there in person, not just to see the tennis on display, but to really experience the atmosphere, the inclusivity and what the league is all about.
“Their presence helps raise the profile of the competition and is a big step towards growing the league and creating more opportunities for visually players in the future.”

The format for the fixture involved single set matches to 6, with a sudden death tie break to 7 if needed. Each category was played in a round-robin format and saw a real mix of players taking to the courts, from seasoned competitors to those playing in their first event.
Special congratulations go to Jon Prashar and Leigh Horner, both new to the competition and Leigh playing her very first event, who impressed everyone by taking gold in the B2+ category – an amazing achievement.
“We also welcomed several other new players to the league: Sophie Wilson, Visrat Bhatti, Fasia Cecille Elonga and Phil Ward. Great to have you all involved! Hull proved again to be a great venue, with excellent facilities and a really welcoming atmosphere. Definitely a strong start to the season,” commented David Wallace.
Paul Faulkner, Group Marketing Director for NIC Services Group, which sponsors the league, said: “We’re thrilled to support the NIC Yorkshire Visually Impaired Tennis League. At NIC, we believe in creating opportunities for everyone to enjoy sport, and this league embodies inclusivity, competition, and community. We look forward to seeing these talented players in action and celebrating their achievements.”
