Audrey Mitchell – a long standing patron of Yorkshire Tennis.
Audrey Mitchell sadly passed away on the 22/05/2022 on her 87th birthday.
Mother of Sue, Jane and Tony who represented Yorkshire and wife of Brian who were all long standing Queens Sports club, Halifax members. Sue (Bolton) still is.
Audrey joined Queens in 1965 and represented the club in the ladies doubles Yorkshire league for many years. She was a true competitor winning Queens singles, ladies doubles and mixed doubles titles on numerous occasions. The last time she won the ladies doubles at Queens was in the year 2000, at the age of 65 when she partnered daughter Sue. Audrey also achieved a lifetime ambition to represent Yorkshire in the over sixties national league. Being presented with her county colours was a very proud moment for her. Her playing career continued with the Sunday morning legends at Queens until the age of 83.
Audrey was a keen supporter of the county team and went every year for 25 years before lockdown to cheer them on. She was even booked in to go to Eastbourne with the Halifax supporters this year
Her funeral service will take place on Thursday 23rd June at Parkwood crematorium at 11.15am followed by a family and friends get together in the bar at Queens Sports Club. All are invited for refreshments and to raise a glass to celebrate the life of Audrey.
