The Graves U12 Girls team qualified for the National Team Tennis Finals by winning the North of England region, staying undefeated all season only dropping one single rubber in the process- a great achievement. The team had qualified and then travelled to the National Tennis centre on Saturday 20 & Sunday 21 July 2019 to compete against the other 3 regional winners for the national title.
In the semi-final stage Graves played Gosling and won 10-0 with the team winning 3 close 3 set matches, a great effort from the whole team to win the crucial tie-breaks. It was also lovely for the girls to play these matches alongside Johanna Konta who was in training for the hard court season that is just starting.
The final was a total Hollywood blockbuster between the top 2 seeds in the event. After a whole day of battling the teams were locked at 3-3 after 4 singles and 2 doubles. Graves were 3-2 down when Abby K won her singles 10-7 in the third set tie break to level the tie. This meant the National final went to a 10 point tie-break to decide the winner.. Graves went 7-9 down in this tie-breaker but saved 4 championship points to win 13-11 and clinch the title, a really really special achievement for the girls and one they’ll never forget.
