Peter Wilkes, from Wakefield, was awarded a British Empire Medal in the 2019 New Year’s Honours for his Services to Tennis.
He was nominated for the award by the Yorkshire Lawn Tennis Association (YLTA) in recognition of 46 years of dedicated service.
He also received the Meritorious Service Award by the LTA , and the Outstanding Service Award by Yorkshire Tennis.
He said: “The award is a huge honour. Playing and administering tennis has been such a big part of my life for more than 50 years and I am certainly going to miss it.”
His playing accolades include Yorkshire men’s doubles and Yorkshire mixed doubles champion, he represented Yorkshire between 1963 and 1979 and was Wakefield Club champion for 20 years He also played Junior Wimbledon in 1963.
Peter Chaired the LTA Northern Region, the British Davis Cup, the British Fed Cup and the Birmingham based AGON Classic pre-Wimbledon Event.
