Brentwood Tennis Club becomes Yorkshire’s First LTA Youth Recognised Venue

Brentwood TC, Sheffield has been rewarded with the LTA Youth Recognised Venue prestigious award for adopting and delivering the junior programme to the highest standard.

LTA Youth Recognised Venues have demonstrated that they are committed to delivering an excellent junior programme that offers high quality coaching and regular competitive opportunities for young players.

This recognition is not only a reward for all their efforts to run a first-class junior programme, but can be used as a key tool to promote their venue, attract more players and grow even further.

Ben Howarth who is the Head Coach at the Club has built a programme to help more children enjoy the benefits of playing and staying in tennis, whatever their age, gender, ability, disability or background. This culture was clear to see when Jo Cunliffe (LTA, Workforce Development Partner) visited the Club earlier in May,

“I went into the Club and was instantly taken with the welcoming, accessible and positive feel about the venue. The energy and enthusiasm the Club and Ben put in is infectious and I didn’t want to leave! What a place to inspire all players from all backgrounds and abilities to enjoy tennis, whilst also benefiting from the invaluable life skills physical activity can bring! The LTA Youth Recognised Venue status is thoroughly deserved and we wish the programme continued success!”

Ben, along with Jan Atkins who is a Committee member at the Club were presented with the plaque in between the rain showers that didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits on Wednesday August 2nd!

Ben not only thrives at Brentwood, but is also heavily involved with the sport across the City. This includes Ability Tennis (Sheffield), which focuses on offering inclusive, active and social tennis to all.

The programme is supported by Ben’s Team of Coaches, Jagriti Choudhry, Brad Stoneham , along with Assistant Coaches and Volunteers. Excitingly Ben has just been awarded funding from Yorkshire Tennis, Open Court (LTA) and the Sheffield & District League to focus on recruiting, developing and engaging with more coaches and volunteers to help things continue to grow!
