Yorkshire flying high in inaugural National Padel Championships

Yorkshire Ladies became National Padel champions at the inaugural National Padel championships held at Rocket Padel in Bristol on the 18th-19th November. And Yorkshire Men were runners up losing the final in a close tie break.

Yorkshire Ladies beat Lancashire and Surrey to win the group stage. Elspeth Edward’s teamed up with Natalie Gilles as first pair with Sophie Cousins and Angela Crossley as second pair. Both won the semi finals v Essex in 3rd set nail-biting tiebreaks. Natalie Gill, Ladies Yorkshire Captain’s great team selection and motivation then carried the ladies through to win the final v Surrey.

The Yorkshire Men’s team was Captained by John Dunsheath who also made an excellent job of captaincy putting side before self. The men also won the group stage beating Warwickshire, Suffolk, Cheshire and the Channel Islands by a championship tie break. They then won the semi final against Essex in another championship tie break, only to be beaten narrowly in fantastic final rubber tie break against worthy winners East Scotland.

Please note with Padel being a new and developing sport these championships are currently self organised by the participating counties and are not under the LTA banner.
