Introducing John Loughton
John joins us as the Yorkshire Under 10 Head Coach. John is a Level 5 Master Performance Coach.
I’m really excited to be joining Yorkshire once again and look forward to working with a great team of people across the county to achieve success!
With Yorkshire being in his blood John has a long history with Yorkshire Tennis stretching back nearly 45 years, as a player, coach, parent and Manager. Firstly as a player John won County Singles and Doubles in every Junior Age Group 10-18 (16s apart – lost the singles final though as testosterone got the better of me!), in fact this runs in the family as sister Maggie, brother Tom and son Sam have also won Junior County Singles titles. John also represented the Under 18 County Cup team for four consecutive years, and also went on to represent the Men’s senior team he was also involved in the National Junior Training Squad for much of his Junior years.
After finishing university with a degree in Business Management John took up the Head Coach role and later combined this with the Tennis Manager position at Nuffield Tennis Academy (Hull) as it is now known, where he worked for 12 years. During this time John produced many County, National and International junior players and one of them would go on to win the Under 18 Nationals. I also captained Yorkshire Junior County Cup Teams in Under 13/14 & 18. In 2007 John left to join the LTA North Performance Team where for the next 14 years he covered a number of roles including Yorkshire Talent and Performance Co-ordinator and North East Regional Performance Co-ordinator. The roles covered a number of areas including talent id, player support, (both Johannus Monday and Paul Jubb are two notable players whom I helped and supported) coach support (mentoring), coach education, running Regional Training and National Training Camps. During this time John also Captained International Junior Teams both at home and abroad. In 2016/17 as part of his role with the LTA John actually joined Yorkshire Tennis on a part time basis as the Yorkshire Performance Tennis Manager where he set up much of the County Training Programme you see running today.
After leaving the LTA John has been supporting the Performance Programmes in Nuffield, Thongsbridge and Goole Tennis Centres.
Over my career I’ve been extremely fortunate to work with some great people who I’ve learnt a lot from and I see every day as a learning opportunity. For me I always try to remember to stand in the shoes of others and try and balance passion with a considered and thoughtful approach.
Away from tennis John is married to Jenny (who in the past has worked for Yorkshire Tennis as a Club Development Officer and also managed the highly successful HPC programme at Nuffield Tennis Centre for many years). They have two children Sam and Molly who both represented the County at tennis. However they both ended up in football and spent many years at respective Academies (Sam Hull City and Molly York City) Sam is currently at University in Montana USA on a Scholarship and is captain of the team that won their Conference and qualified for the National Tournament for the first time in their history and Molly is about to go to University in Indiana USA in August on a scholarship to follow her football journey. Any spare time left, John spends supporting Everton and Hull FC and plays golf to a decent level (I did get down to a 2 handicap but that was before kids!!)
