Championships cap off 'stellar year' for padel in Yorkshire

Padel Shed Huddersfield was the host the fantastically competitive 2025 NIC Yorkshire County Padel Championships, played over the weekend of 8th-9th November.

Delivered in partnership with NIC FM Services Group, the second annual championships attracted over 160 entries, with seven competitions, including the Men’s Open, Men’s O40, Men’s O50 and Women’s O50 played on the Saturday, followed by the Boys U14, Men’s O60 and Women’s O60 played on the Sunday.

Peter Vann, Yorkshire’s head of padel, paid tribute to the superb work of tournament organisers Vanessa Cameron and Mark Hinchcliffe and said the championships capped off a stellar year for the sport in the county and the UK.

“Just one year ago there were 700 courts in the country and now there are over 1600. Meanwhile, here in Yorkshire, padel has continued to grow. We’ve provided players at county and international level  and achieved a tremendous amount of success.”

Opening just month before the championships, Padel Shed Huddersfield provided a state-of-the-art venue for the tournament, offering a purpose-built facility featuring nine premium courts, viewing areas and panoramic show courts.

Speaking to BBC Sport West Yorkshire ahead of the championships, LTA National Performance Pathway Manager Libby Fletcher paid tribute to the ambition of Padel Shed Huddersfield, which aims to develop a pro-academy equipped with the facilities and coaching expertise that can produce players able to compete at elite levels of the sport.

Paul Faulkner, group marketing director of NIC FM Services Group, said: “The NIC Yorkshire Padel County Championships was a brilliant celebration of sport and community. The level of play was exceptional, and the atmosphere was fantastic. NIC FM Services is proud to headline sponsor an event that connects players, fans, and local communities while promoting the growth of padel in Yorkshire.”
